Managing Batches to Reduce eBay errors:

Before getting into the specific errors that eBay may report that will prevent you from listing your products, it is helpful to review how to leverage the Push to eBay tool's ability to create batches with different batch default settings to improve your listing success rates. For more information on creating new batches and managing the default settings for these batches please review How to Use the Push to eBay Tool as well as the video below.

In order to reduce the amount of product data related errors and to reduce the amount of time it takes to resolve errors when they occur, we recommend creating multiple batches with a limited number of products in each batch. It will be very helpful to create separate batches based on the eBay category that is associated with the products you are uploading, as many errors are directly related to certain ebay categories.

For example, if you are attempting to upload products in the categories "Women's Fragrances," "Consumer Electronics" and "Skin Care" it would be beneficial to create separate batches for each of these categories. Then be sure to set up the batch default settings for these batches separately and set the appropriate Default Category for each batch.

"Item Specific is Missing" Errors:

A common product listing error is when an "item specific" is missing for a product you are attempting to push to eBay. Depending on the category There are various item specifics that are required by eBay to be configured for products listed in certain categories. There are a few examples below of item specific errors but there are numerous other examples of this error that can be resolved in a similar manner. You will know that an item specific error is occurring if the error has any mention of an item specific that is missing.

Listing Error Examples: The item specific Type is missing. Add Type to this listing, enter a valid value, and then try again. The item specific Size is missing. Add Size to this listing, enter a valid value, and then try again. The item specific Brand is missing. Add Brand to this listing, enter a valid value, and then try again.

Solution: For item specific errors, you must edit the product details for each affected item individually, you can not resolve these errors by editing products in bulk or through updating the batch default settings.

You can resolve these errors by selecting "Edit Product Details" for each product with an item specific error.

Then, under Product Details & Specifics you will select the option for "Add Specific." In the "Name" field you will enter the name of the specific that the eBay error is reporting as missing (i.e. Type, Size, Brand, etc.). In the "Value" field you will enter anything that you see fit that describes the specific that is being added.

After you have updated all of the Item Specifics that eBay is requesting, you will save your changes and you can confirm the errors have been resolved by selecting the "Validate & View Fees" or "Push to eBay" options.

Please refer to the following eBay help link for more information on item specifics:  https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/listing-and-marketing/item-specifics.html

"Item Specific Size" Error:

Listing Error: The item specific Size (Women’s) is missing. Add Size (Women’s) to this listing, enter a valid value, and then try again.

Solution Select Edit Product Details for the product with the error. Then, under Product Details & Specifics you will select the option for Add Specific. In the Name field you will enter “Size (Women’s)” then in the Value field enter S, M, L, or XL.

Please see the information above on "Item Specific is Missing" Errors for more details.

"Item Specific Style" Error:

Listing Error: The item specific Style is missing. Add Style to this listing, enter a valid value, and then try again.

Solution Select Edit Product Details for the product with the error. Then, under Product Details & Specifics you will select the option for Add Specific. In the Name field you will enter "Style" and in the Value field you will enter anything that you see fit that describes the style of the product (i.e. “Rustic,” “Summer” or “Commercial Grade”).

Please see the information above on "Item Specific is Missing" Errors for more details.

"Category" Errors:

Listing Error: You did not specify any valid category in the request.

Solution In order to successfully upload products to eBay, a valid category must be associated with each product. The easiest way to ensure that all of the products in a particular batch have a valid category is to update the Batch Default Settings to set the Default Category for all items in your batch. You can also update the category for an individual product by selecting "Edit Product Details" and selecting a "Default Category" under the Category tab.

Listing Error: Return policy is not supported for this category.

Solution:  While this error is stating that the return policy is not valid, it can typically be resolved by updating the category for the product(s) reporting the error. Please see the solution for the error above for information on updating the "Default Category" for your product(s) to resolve this error. If you have selected a valid category and your product is still showing an error related to a return policy, please see the solution for the error below for more information on resolving this.

"Return Option is Missing or not Valid" Error:

Listing Error: A return option is missing or not valid. Update your return options.

Solution: As noted above, the return option that eBay requires is based on the category that the products you are attempting to upload belong to. In order resolve this error, you will either need to update the category for the products with this error (information on this can be found in section above) or you will have to to add or update the Return Policy in your Batch Default settings. You cannot update the Return Policy for individual items, this can only be updated for your entire batch. This is another reason we recommend creating separate batches based on the eBay category that is associated with the products you are uploading.
To update the Return Policy for your batch, you will navigate to the Batch Default Settings and select the "Shipping, Tax & Returns" menu. From there you will scroll down to Return Policy and add update the fields shown in the screenshot below. Once you have done this, you can confirm if your updated Return Policy is valid by selecting the "Validate & View Fees" or "Push to eBay" options.

"Invalid UPC" Error:

Listing Error: UPC has an invalid value. Enter a valid value and try again.

SolutionTo resolve this error, you will need to add or update the UPC for the individual product that is reporting this error. If the UPC field is left blank we will send "Does Not Apply" when creating your listing. However for certain brands/categories of products eBay may require a legitimate UPC and will prevent you from listing without one.

To update the UPC for a product you will select "Edit Product Details" for the product that is reporting this error. Then, select the "Product Details & Specifics" tab and enter the value in the UPC field.

Make sure to save your changes and you can confirm the errors have been resolved by selecting the "Validate & View Fees" or "Push to eBay" options for the affected products.

"No Product Found" Error:

Listing Error: No product found for Product Listing Details

Solution: This error means eBay cannot find the UPC value in their system. You can still list these products, but you will first need to delete or edit the UPC value from the listing. To do this, please follow the steps for the "Invalid UPC" Error (above) and remove or edit the UPC value that is specified for your product.

"Condition is Required" Error:

Listing Error: Condition is required for this category.
Solution: To resolve this error you will need to specify the condition of the product that is receiving the error. The eBay required condition descriptions differ by item category and for certain categories no condition is required to be entered.
To add a product condition you will follow the steps mentioned in the solution for resolving item specific errors (above). In the Product Specific Name field add "Condition" and in the Value field add the condition of the item you are attempting to upload (i.e. "New").
Please see the following links for more information on the ebay requirements for selecting these item conditions:

"Item Cannot be Listed" Error:

Listing Error: The item cannot be listed or modified. The title and/or description may contain improper words, or the listing or seller may be in violation of eBay policy.

Solution: There are several reasons this error may be shown. Here are a few examples:

  1. Your listing contains words that are in violation of eBay's Listing Policy (i.e. insurance, money order, checks, like new). For more information please see https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/listing-policies?id=4213
  2. The account may have been compromised and eBay may have reset the password.
  3. There may be an invalid phone number on file for your eBay account
  4. eBay may have prohibited the seller from listing items and they may need to contact eBay's SafeHarbor Department.

"Handling Time" Error:

Listing Error: Handling Time is required for this item.

Solution: To update the Handling Time for your batch, you will navigate to the Batch Default Settings and select the "Shipping, Tax & Returns" menu. From there you will scroll down to Handling Time and select an option from the dropdown menu shown in the screenshot below. Once you have done this, you can confirm if your updated Handling Time is valid by selecting the "Validate & View Fees" or "Push to eBay" options.

You will have to to add or update the Return Policy in your Batch Default settings. You cannot update the Return Policy for individual items, this can only be updated for your entire batch. This is another reason we recommend creating separate batches based on the eBay category that is associated with the products you are uploading.
